Yes — the repentant thief on the cross went right to heaven 

A prime example of immediately going to heaven is the repentant thief on the cross alongside Jesus’ crucifixion, where Jesus said to him,

“Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:39-43). 

A believer’s spirit/soul immediately goes to heaven when they die. Their body remains in the grave on earth awaiting the resurrection.

Some religious groups hold different ideas, though.

Jehovah’s Witnesses and Seventh-day Adventists teach a form of soul sleep after death until the resurrection.

The Roman Catholic Church teaches that many who die with unresolved minor sins enter a temporary place called purgatory to endure a painful process of purification before they can enter heaven.

However, there was no gap of time between the death of the thief on the cross and going to heaven.
