The ultimate, final destination of those who reject Christ is called the Lake of Fire.

Hell, or the Lake of Fire, is described as a place of:

• Unquenchable fire — (Mark 9:48)

• Outer darkness — (Matt. 8:12)

• Everlasting destruction — (2 Thess. 1:9)

• Torment day and night forever — (Rev. 20:10)

• Burning fire and brimstone — (Rev. 21:8)

• Weeping and gnashing of teeth — (Matt. 8:12)

These descriptors may be more symbolic than literal in nature, as fire and darkness do not typically exist together. But even if figures of speech (such as darkness and fire) are used to describe the indescribable, the reality of God's wrath is far more terrifying than any human metaphor can capture.  There is no escape. And there is no relief.

 

This ghastly imagery of hell should drive us to Christ as our savior. Salvation is meant to save us from what? From hell; from God's wrath on sinners; and from eternal torment in hell.
