Jesus was asked about a woman who remarried after each husband died. In heaven, the Sadducees wanted to know whose wife of her seven husbands will she be?

 

Jesus said,

“At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven” (Matt. 22:30).

Marriage had significant purposes for humanity on earth, such as companionship, intimacy, and procreation. Marriage is also a picture of our relationship with Christ.

After we join Christ in heaven, the illustration of marriage will no longer be applicable, as we will be united with Christ forever.

Will we look like angels?

When Jesus stated in the above verse that we “will be like angels in heaven,” some people presume that we will look like angels in heaven. But Jesus' focus was that angels aren't married in heaven, so neither will humans. Therefore, being like angels is not about looks but how we will relate to our earthly spouse once we're in heaven. So we can't push this verse too far and stretch it from its focus on marriage to how we'll look in heaven.
